Susie Stiles is a Knoxville native and graduate of Webb School. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Tulane University’s Sophie Newcomb College and later returned to Tulane to earn her Master’s degree in Social Work. Susie is licensed by the State of Tennessee as a clinical social worker (LCSW). She holds a Clinical Diplomate, the highest distinction bestowed on clinical social workers from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), where she has been a member since 1980.
Susie remained in the greater New Orleans area working in mental health treatment settings and private practice until 1994, when she returned to Knoxville and went to work for Covenant Health’s Senior Services. She served as an inpatient social worker and provided consultation in nursing homes and assisted living facilities through Covenant’s Geriatric Outreach program. Susie directed the Peninsula Senior Day Hospital, providing outpatient treatment for older adults with depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses.
In 2007, Susie joined the Elder Law Practice of Monica Franklin as an Elder Care Coordinator. Within an innovative multidisciplinary approach to elder law and long-term care planning, Susie has provided clinical support, education and advocacy for older adults and their families in Knox and surrounding counties through the practice’s Life Care Plan service.
She has served on many community boards and committees focusing on issues related to aging, mental health, dementia, and late life care. She is a member of the Tennessee Society of Healthcare Social Workers and was awarded Social Worker of the Year in 2014. Susie was also honored to receive the John Duncan Award for Senior Advocacy in 2018. Susie is active in providing education to a variety of professional groups and community members on a wide range of topics related to aging, Alzheimer’s disease, caregiving, long term care and end of life issues.
Susie’s daughter, Emily, is a veterinarian for an exotic feline sanctuary in Texas. When Susie has spare time, she enjoys painting, gardening, cooking and writing.
